Course Description and Objectives

In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, AI has emerged as a transformative force that has the potential to revolutionize industries and reshape business strategies. Managing innovation strategy and performance is essential for organizations to maintain a competitive edge, drive growth, adapt to technological advancements, engage employees, achieve continuous improvement, and deliver customer value. This graduate seminar will explore how organizations can leverage AI to drive innovation, enhance performance, and gain a competitive edge in the market.

This course addresses the innovation and performance of organizations by:

  • Exploring the intersection of innovation strategy and performance management, examining how AI technologies can be integrated into existing frameworks to fuel innovation and propel organizational performance to new heights.
  • Building a learning organization for sustainable advantage over time by applying a balanced scorecard approach from financial, customer, internal-business-process, and learning and growth perspectives.
  • Establishing core capability measurements including human performance management; development of an innovation funnel, and evaluation of organizational performance.
  • Discuss the key concepts, AI tools, ethics, and AI bias such that business can engage in developing and executing innovation strategies that leverage AI effectively.

The class provides an overview of philosophies and methods for organizational improvement. Students will gain mastery in designing and implementing successful world-class performance improvement systems that leverage AI.

The objectives of this course are to study current views of AI; philosophies and methods for organizational improvement; to understand strategic and tactical planning methods for refining organizational objectives; and to measure achievement of the objectives on key dimensions.

Instructional methods will consist of lectures with interactive student participation, video presentations, guided online homework, discussions, student projects, and presentations.
